’Sometimes Whispers’ paintings from 2020 to the present.
‘Sometimes Whispers’ is an ongoing series of abstract paintings.
The process starts with ad hoc marks made with oil sticks or loose streaks of paint that disturb the support. Fluid washes of paint of varying viscosities, colours and tones are poured and dripped onto the surface creating new layers that partially conceal the previously disrupted surface. During this process the initial oil stick marks dissolve or are scraped, sometimes with a palette knife, sometimes with my hands, to punctuate the surface.
Oscillating between intention and chance, plan and reaction the process is repeated. Over time a form of peace and resolution emerges, and each painting finds its place to be.

All works from this series are painted on heavy weight heritage paper* attached to a sheet of plywood, which is robust enough to absorb the layers of paint, (and the scrapes and tears of their removal). Its surface is smooth enough to allow the fluidity of the washes, gestures and layers of paint to flow freely. (As opposed to canvas, where the cotton material and the teeth of the weave absorbs and slows down the flow).
